RESPONSIVE DEMAND

SRA see this as a very important future direction for public transport. This interest embraces traditional forms of door to door services such as taxi buses, community and social transport. In addition, work has been done on projects that use satellite technology to link passengers with services in new ways. These include the provision of real time information via mobile phones and the internet, linked to individual journey planning. A key theme is the ability of local communities to take the initiative in organising transport when there are gaps in commercial provision.

  • In order to understand how people make travel decisions SRA have led a team of experts on the influence that electronic information especially smart phones could have on this process.
  • SRA have also worked with big companies and local authorities to develop works travel plans which reduce car use. Solutions have included the provision of works minibuses, shared cars and the provision of offices at local hubs.
